Lane Driving

Sir, —It would be of interest to many if the Transport Department would tell us why no reference is made in the 1964 Road Code as to how traffic lanes should be used according to arrow markings at lane entrances. Surely this information is necessary for a driving test. Positional driving in a 30-mile-an-hour area, with only the centre line marked, where vehicles turning left within a reasonable distance keep left, going straight on keep centre and turning right keep right, co nmonly used overseas and coming into use in New Zealand is not dealt with in the code. Is it permissible? Keep left is the code order excipt in the case of a right turn where we are told to “move out towards the centre of the street.” The 1964 code arpears to be suitable for open road and country villag; driving.— Yours, etc., RIGHTWRONG. January 8, 1966.
