Dinghy Found Drifting

A small clinker-built dinghy dragging a small chain and anchor was brought ashore yesterday 7 morning by three members of the Sumner Surf Life-saving Club. Messrs A. Bertenshaw and A. Haslett saw the dinghy drifting out to sea and paddled out on surf skis to get it but the wind and strong drift made it difficult to bring in. Mr G. Adams took out a line and the dinghy was reeled in on it.

Two youths had seen the dinghy earlier drifting out from the Estuary over the bar but were unable to do anything to stop it.

Constable W. A. Cromie of the Sumner police said the dinghy was a heavily built clinker, lift long with a beam of sft, and with three seats fitted inside. It was painted white on the outside and blue on the inside.
