Search For Mental Hospital Escaper
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 10. Police are searching for a 17-year-old youth, a mental patient at Porirua Hospital, who escaped through a window at the hospital last night after attacking an attendant with a chair and breaking his arm.
I Sergeant B. Ryan, officer in charge of Porirua police, said : today: “The escaper is not | dangerous, but may attack any -person who corners him.” I When he made off, the youth was wearing only a pair of ! jeans, and possibly a sweat ! shirt. According to the police, a I fight started among patients about 6.10 p.m. The attendant tried to break up the fight and was attacked by the youth who then escaped. Road Blocks Set Road blocks were last night set up on the motorway and all roads leading from Porirua Ten police cars took part in the search, and bush on the hills behind the hospital was also scoured. No road blocks were set up when the search was resumed today but roads were being specially watched by mobile patrols. Sergeant Ryan said that several reports of possible sight-
i ings had been received from I members of the public, but t had not so far led to the r youth’s recapture. The escaper is described as i sft 6in tall, of solid build, with : dark hair, long at the sides, t and flat on top.
