NO WIND IN AKAROA
Finish Of Race Delayed
fFrom N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent aboard the motorcruiser Miranda"!
Caprice appeared to be in the lead at dusk yesterday in the Wellington-Akaroa yacht race, but no report has been heard from her.
Takohe, which earlier had led, lost her mainsail. She was passed by Calypso five miles south of Le Bons Bay at 7.12 p.m. A flat calm in Akaroa harbour may delay the finish. The leaders are under 20 miles from the finishing line. Ten miles astern of Takohe is Altair, with Tainui 21 miles further back.
In mid-afternoon Caprice reported a fresh southerly wind, and her mainsail was reefed.
Takohe blew out her mainsail and genoa, and was hoveto off Le Bons Bay. Charmaine has no radio but is believed to be in a handy position on handicap. Every competitor was checked by an R.N.Z.A.F. Sunderland today.
