YACHTING O.K. Dinghy Class Titles Today
The third New Zealand championship series for the O.K. dinghy class will begin at Murray’s Bay, Auckland, today.
i Last year’s fleet of 35 boats at Charteris Bay will be eclipsed this year with a 55boat entry list Of these will [be three entrants from the I Mount Pleasant club: R. Wingfield sailing Okapi and K. MeI Lachlan and R. Porteous, who 'will sail borrowed boats. Christchurch yachtsmen have not fared too well in the young O.K. dinghy class. The best results so far have been obtained by the veteran yachtsman, C. Vincent, who was third in the first series at Auckland and by the Javelin skipper, W. H. Beere. who was fifth last year. Both Wingfield and Porteous have improved this season. McLachlan hardly has sailed an O.K. at all, so they will have an r uphill battle against the tough and competent Aucklanders. Among those competing will be last season's winner, C. Roberts: the finn skipper, P. Letcher; M. Menzies, who did so well in both O.K. and Finn classes last season: and J. Douglas, an up-and-coming Auckland junior skipper. There will be six races with the best five performances
counting. Finances permitting, the top six crews will visit Australia for an interDominion series next Easter.
