The New Zealand skiff. Mism LG.A., sailed by D. Kean, was a runaway winner in the first heat of the world 18ft skiff championships on the Brisbane river.

M.ss 1.G.A., from the Auckland SaiJing Club, led all the way to beat the New South Wales entrants. Apex <L. Heffer nan) and Travelodge <R. Holmes).

Kean, a former New Zealand 12ft Q class champion and run ner-up in last year’s world championship was the coin plete master in Saturdays gusty 25-knot south-easter. The surprise of the race was the poor showing by Travelodge, which had been untroubled to win the Australian championship over the kame course last week.

Cobra (N. Muller) was unlucky to capsize soon after the start after a colbsion with New Zealand's Ah Bisto (A. Barclay). Ah Bisto broke her bowsprit and withdrew.

Apex, soundly beaten by Travelodge in the Australian championships, reversed her form by outsailing Travelodge into the wind to finish second, smin 19sec astern of Miss LG.A.

Next was Travelodge followed by Miss lan and New Zealand s Secret (G. Banks).
