HARBOUR RACE
New Record To Kindred
Alan Kindred won the Akaroa Harbour race by two minutes in the record time of 59min lOsec when the annual swimming event was held in almost perfect conditions yesterday morning.
Starting quickly, Kindred and Mark Hindle left the rest of a small field and swam together for the first two miles and a half. With a quarter-mile to go, Kindred left his rival far behind in a very powerful burst.
Miss Judith Wright won the women’s race by 40sec from Miss RossaH MacKenzie. to finish in the good time of 65min 23sec. Results were:
