Kay Fiiou Wins Cup At Thames Again
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. For the second year in succession the Cambridge mare, Kay Fiiou, won the Goldfields Cup, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Thames on Saturday. She narrowly beat Royal Tax, an outsider in her first win since she took the event I last year. The second leg, the Flying Handicap went to the offcourse substitute, Arbelle. Her win was by far the easiest and most impressive of the day. Giving the leaders four lengths-start at the turn she ran right round them and, galloping very smoothly, won by over a length. The double paid £3O 7s.
The weather was overcast and showery until the sixth race when it became clear. The track was very soft and holding following heavy rain.
