Lady Topaz At Good Odds

• The Press" Special Service

ALEXANDRA.

Lady Topaz set the stage for a £9l 6s double at the Vincent Jockey Club’s meeting at Omakau on Saturday when she outstayed the favourite. Flyway, to win the White Memorial Hack Handicap decisively by a length.

The double was rounded off by Pease in the Clare Memorial Gold Cup.

After a good run behind the leaders. Pease outstayed the top-weight, Limbo, and the lightly-supported Woodella in a blanket finish with only half a neck and a nose between them.

Pease, which is trained at Wingalui by R. Heasley for the estate of the late Mr J. M. Samsoon, gave the stable apprentice, Paul Silver, his second riding success in succession.

Limbo having his second start in the colours of Mr Duncan McFarlane of Christchurch, from A. E. Didham’s stable, recorded a sound performance after pulling hard close to the leader. Woodella surprised by finishing pn after being near the rear in the early stages. The favourite, Soncerai, was never in a challenging position and raced like a tired horse finishing sixth. A winner at Invercargill early in the week, Lady Topaz was at surprisingly good odds in the White Memorial, and as eighth favourite paid £l9 12s 6d to win.

Trained at Gore by R. J. Cochrane for Mr W. C. Bruce, the Final Count filly was ridden by the Riceairton apprentice. A. Telfer. I The weather was fine and Strack firm.
