RACING SAIL AWAY CATCHES SHUT AT POST
(New Zealand Press Association)
PALMERSTON NORTH.
Sail Away finished with a fine run to take the Pahiatua Cup, the first leg of the double at the Pahiatua Racing Club’s meeting at Awapuni on Saturday.
He caught Shut right on the post to win by a head.
The pacemaker, Worthy Chat, weakened to a good third, ahead of Patanga, Grand Coeur, Trossach and Sir Torre. Plantation was always going well in the Booth’s Gin Handicap and after taking charge on the turn he ran on to heat Super Time easily. Star of Kildare finished well for third ahead of Wavering, General Derby and the disappointing favourite, Hakawai.
The Sail Away-Plantation double paid £23 3s for £l. Racing was held in fine weather before a fair attendance. The track was in good order. Results:
