Women’s Shield Remains In Auckland

AUCKLAND. Wellington and Canterbury provided a fitting climax to the national women s cricket tournament at Auckland on Saturday, with the most exciting finish and most entertaining batting of the whole series. In spite of a big-hearted attempt to overhaul the Wellington total of 168. Canterbury was unsuccessful, and the game i ended in a draw.
This left Auckland with two outright wins and a first innings win, ahead on points, and it retained the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield.
Heavy overnight rain caused all morning play to be cancelled. Wellington added another 52 runs to its score of
116 for five, before declaring Canterbury was left to score 169 runs in 96 minutes for first innings points. At stumps it was 34 runs short of the target. In the other matches, Auckland and North Shore had first innings wins over the Combined XI and Otago. Scores:—
