DUTCH NEW GUINEA
Criticism Of Australia
(N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) DJAKARTA, May 19. Australian recognition of Dutch sovereignty over Dutch New Guinea has been described by an Indonesian minister as “stupid and a negation of international law.”
The Indonesian Minister of Planning (Professor Mohammed Yamin) said: “Actually Australia does not recognise Dutch sovereignty, but recognises Dutch colonial power over West Irian. “The recognition of the sovereignty of power is a violation of law,” he said, British United Press reported. He said that the Dutch claim to sovereignty “is against all laws and is in line with Hitler’s fascist doctrine.
“According to international law, a nation’s sovereignty covers only its national territory. West Irian is part of Indonesia, and I am certain of the legal grounds of our struggle to liberate West Irian,” he said.
