Muttonbirds Dying in Norths— Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of muttonbirds died along the northern end of the Ninety-mile beach in Northland during a migration northward on Wednesday. Masses of the birds flew about a quarter of a mile offshore all day, with stragglers falling out constantly, some falling into the surf, and some fluttering on to the beach. The beach from the Te Arai bluff northwards was covered with dead and dying birds.—(P.A.)
