WAIMAIRI BEACH PARKING

County Council Seeks Facilities

The Christchurch City Council considers that foreshore parking facilities should first be provided at North and South New Brighton, and does not consider that the Waimairi County Council’s request for similar amenities at Waimairi Beach should receive precedence. This advice was received at a meeting of the Waimairi council on Thursday evening. The City Council is also not prepared to consider sharing the cost of a parking area at the present time. The assistant county engineer (Mr A. Thomsen) reported that the construction of a wall would cost £lB2O and the total cost of the parking area would be £3200.

A detailed report will be put before the next meeting of the council’s works and reserves committee.
