Art Exhibitions For Christchurch Galleries
The Auckland City Art Gallery has made 10 exhibitions available for showing in Christchurch during the next 12 months. The smaller exhibitions will be shown Jn the Canterbury Public Library’s hall and the others in the Robert McDougall Art Gallery, except for one in the Durham street ’art gallery. The exhibitions are:— Australian Prints.—A collection of 35 original prints by contemporary Australian printmakers, to be shown in the library hall. German Expressionist Prints.—A selection of 30 graphic works by modern German masters from the Auckland gallery’s own collection. The exhibition, to be held in the library hall, will include works by Lovis Cornith. Kathe Killwitz, Emil Nold, Karl Schmidty-Rott-full. Maz Pechstein, and Otto Dix. Silk-screen Copies of the Lascaux Cave Paintings.— Screened by Douglas Masonwiez, these copies are actual size and make an exhibition of approximately 33 running feet. New Zealand Water Colours.—This will be of 35 paintings, and will also be in the library hall. Wars in New Zealand.—An exhibition of 60 water colours and tonographical works from the Maori War oeriod. The catalogue of this exhibition, which will be in the art gallery, will be introduced by Dr. Keith Sinclair, Associate Professor of History at the University of Auckland. International Prints. An exhibition of 80 contemporary graphic works from the United Kingdom, France. Italy, Germany, Spain, Greece, India, Japan, and the United States. Durer Prints. Approximately 30 engravings by Albrecht Durer (1471-1528)
from public and private collections in New Zealand. Contemporary New Zealand Painting.—A selection of 60 works by New Zealand painters during the last two years, this exhibition will be shown in the gallery of the Canterbury Society of Arte. Painting in the Pacific.—A collection of 80 prints from Japan (35), West Coast of America (25), Australia (10), and New Zealand (10). The aim of this exhibition is to show a clear relationship among the regions, all of which lie on the periphery of the Pacific.
Contemporary Spanish Painting.—A selection of 60 works by leading Spanish painters.
