HAIRDRESSER ON FASHION
“Attitude Of Mind”
“Fashion is an attitude of mind,” said Mrs Loma Hyslop, a professional hairdresser, speaking on grooming and appearance last evening at a course on membership and leadership, arranged by the Adult Education Department of the University of Canterbury. "We are trained and govemed in our attitude to fashion by the world around us.” said Mrs Hyslop. Social and political factors had a great effect on the fashion of time, she said. Mrs Hyslop said there was a tendency for women today to be reluctant to look attractive to men. "History shows us this usually happens when there is a surplus of men as there is today,” she said. “A woman must decide what her good and bad points are and then accentuate the good ones,” said Mrs Hyslop. No really intelligent woman let fashion dictate to her She merely took from fashion what she wanted and needed, said Mrs Hyslop. During the lecture. Mrs Hyslop and her husband. Mr Russell Hyslop. demonstrated some of the latest hair styles
