Success By New Zealanders
(N.Z.P.A -Reuier—Cojjyrtffht) SYDNEY, May 15. Two young New Zealanders were successful in the first round of the boys’ under 17 singles at the opening of the New South Wales age and schools’ championships at the White City courts today. The two winners were P. Thompson who beat G. Pollard (N.S.W.) 6-1, and A Brooks who defeated M. Friend (N.S.W.) 6-3. In the second round. Brooks lost to a Sydney boy, R. Knight, 6-4. The tournament is said to be the biggest of its kind in the world and this year 1300 players are taking part. Play opened today on 42 courts.
