SECURITY SYSTEM
“No Need For Overhaul”
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, May 15. There is no specific Intention of overhauling New Zealand’s security intelligence system, as is intended in the United Kingdom and Australia after recent espionage revelations. This was said tonight by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake), who is also Minister in charge of Security. “Our security arrangements in New Zealand are continually under review," said Mr Holyoake tonight when asked about this. “I constantly examine the position in collaboration with the Director of Security. We have a very small organisation here, and it is comparatively easy to review it. almost on a personal basis." Asked whether it was true that some years ago doubts had been expressed in a United Kingdom report about security in New Zealand, Mr Holyoake said that this was no longer the case. No necessary information was withheld from New Zealand on the score of doubts about security here.
