Charge Of The Life Guards
Sir,—May I correct the explanation of the picture in today’s issue? These are members of the Household Cavalry Musical Ride. On the left are the Life Guards, on the right the Royal Horse Guards. The movement depicted is part of the third at the canter, with. lances at
Attention, where each rider passes through the interval between their opposite rank. From here many more movements are made, after which, as the finale, come The Charge, when both ranks, riding two deep, charge across the arena—front rank lances at the Point, rear rank at Attention. The place is Kensington Palace Gardens. This is, and ha-s been so, since the days of William the Third in 1689. when it comprised 26 acres. Later Queen Anne added 30 acres and later still, Queen Caroline added 200 acres. The Palace, as you will know, is where Queen Victoria was born.—Yours, etc., MEREBIMUR. May 11, 1961.
