Church Broadcasts
Sir,—l would thank W. H. Warren for his letter concerning the associated music. I do not disparage the musical part of any religious service—on the contrary, I can claim to have a love for good music, and to be versed in some extent in musical knowledge and appreciation. But to me (and, I have reason to believe, many others) that is a secondary consideration. The vital part is the spiritual message, the expounding of the Scriptures the assistance given thereby to live the coming days as a true Christian. That is my primary aim when having to fall back on a Sunday broadcast. What if the music is “sub-standard’” Better that than the message. Hence my wish to be selective. I shall not trespass, sir, on your time or space again on this subject beyond thanking you for your reply.—Yours, etc., PROTESTANT. May 13, 1961. [This correspondence may now cease.—Ed., “The Press.”)
