Marooned Scouts Brought Out

The 19 boy scouts of the St. James’ troop, Spreydon, who were marooned when the Eyre river cut them off near View Hill, were brought out on Saturday under the supervision of a police party from Rangiora. With the river too deep to wade a heavy rope was slung across and the scouts brought out in an improvised bosun’s chair. The party had spent the night in an old tram and apart from a shortage of food suffered little inconvenience Cars and the equipment used by the scouts were left at the camp site, which was surrounded by water. It is understood that a small amount of equipment was lost in the flood.
