TWO DIE IN ACCIDENT
Woman And Grandson
(N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 14. A nine-months-old boy and his grandmother died after a collision between two ears at the corner of May road and Stoddard road, Mount Roskill, at 3.25 p.m. today. The husband of the dead woman suffered serious injuries and is gravely ill in the Green Lane Hospital. Those dead were: Mrs Barbara Elvena Vella, aged about 46, of Grey Lynn. Michael Ronald Mercer, aged nine months, son of Mr and Mrs R. Mercer, of Blockhouse Bay. The man in hospital is Mr Joseph Vella, aged 59, a fish shop proprietor. A second baby, Vanessa Ulrich, also aged nine months, daughter of Mr Nick Ulrich, of the same address as Mr and Mrs Vella, was admitted to the Auckland Hospital for observation. Vanessa is also understood to be a grandchild of Mr and Mrs Vella. Three people travelling in the other car were treated at the casualty department of the Auckland Hospital for abrasions and shock.
