Cook Strait Power Cable
Sir. —Some country homes within 40 miles of Christchurch have been battling for years for electric power but without success. Although this is the responsibility of a local board, there is a moral responsibility on the Government to see that all South Island needs are satisfied before taking power across Cook Strait. If a prospective shortage develops in the North Island, heaven and earth are moved to avert trouble and cost is of secondary consideration. In the writer’s opinion no Government/ has treated the South Island as badly as the existing one.—Yours, etc.. SWINGING VOTE. May 11, 1961.
