Agriculture Anil Science
Sir,—Shortly the annua) farmers' conference will beheld at Lincoln College, and once again ' farmefs will be bombarded with the latest facts in agricultural science Our scientists are great at attempting to find cures for troubles created by their own predecessors. When will New Zealand start research work similar to that being carried out at Haughley (England) by the British Soil Association? We are badly in need of it when we see the mess we are in when we have to inject selenium (barred in the United States as a suspected cancer-form-ing agent) into our sheep, when we have to use that most dangerous chemical, D.D.T., on our pastures, when we used dieldrin for years and only now find out its deleterious effects on export mutton, when we tip all our city wastes into holes in the ground and pump dur sewage out to sea. Will Lincoln answer the basic questions this year or ever?—Yours, etc..
