DEPUTATION ON AIRPORT
Date Unsuitable To Minister
It does not suit the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr McAlpine) to receive a deputation at the Christchurch airport next Saturday to advance the claims of the airport as a pure jet airport. The Minister advised the City Council by telegram yesterday that prior engagements prevented his meeting the deputation on the date sought. As soon as he was in a position to meet the request for a deputation he would advise the council, the Minister said. It had been proposed that members of the council’s airport committee and other organisations which had representatives at the recent public protest meeting should meet the Minister to convey the meeting’s decisions, which urged that Christchurch be designated an airport for use by pure jet aircraft.
