Shorthorn Breeders’ Annual Meeting

fNZ. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, May 5. There was a possibility of the restrictions preventing New Zealand cattle from enitering Australia being lifted I “in the near future.” the pre- ' sident of the Shorthorn Cattle Breeders’ Association, i Mr K. M. Dysart, of Seddon. !said in his report to the anI nual meeting of the association in Invercargill. With this in mind, said I Mr Dysart, breeders should make sure their cattle were in perfect condition when a group of Australian Shorthorn breeders visited the Dominion in October and November next year. “It will be in our own interests to have our herds, and particularly our show cattle, in the very best condition

possible for the 1962 show season,” he said. Cattie Importations Mr Dysart said that during last year a number of breeders had imported cattle to strengthen existing overseas bloodlines, and he hoped these breeders' hopes would be fulfilled. There would always be room for imported Shorthorn cattle in New Zealand. Mr Dysart suggested that as the association’s funds exceeded £3OOO, the time had arrived when it should spend more freely on breed promotion. “The boom in beef cattle is here,” he said. “If we are to enjoy the benefits of this. I think more of our annual surplus might be spent in such a manner as to encour-

age commercial cattlemen to prefer Shorthorns.” Officers Elected Mr Dysart was re-elected president of the association. The vice-president. Mr R. CWilliams (Hastings), was also re-elected.
