BY-ELECTION IN CITY
Legislative Move Too Late
The proposed legislation on by-elections to be introduced during the coming session of Parliament will be too late to affect the scheduled by-election in Christchurch on June 3 to fill the vacancy on the city council caused by the death of Cr. W. J Cowles. In a letter to the ActingTown Clerk (Mr C. S Bowie) the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Gotz). who will introduce the legislation, says that it will aim to reduce unnecessary expenditure on local authorities in holding by-elections in eases where there is no local demand.
