School Milk

Sir,—After hearing the Rev. A Brash tell us of the thousands of children dying of starvation on the streets of India and Asia, it is inconceivable that any person can be concerned about the free issue of the daily pint, presumably used to supplement the already well-fed New Zealand child. What a lovely gesture on the part of the young mothers if they would forgo the school milk and, through their school committees, urge the Government that the money so saved be spent on milk powder and distributed to the less fortunate mothers, thus saving some of them, at least, from the agony of watching their babies die of starvation.— Yours, etc, COMPASSION. May 1, 1961.
