Town And Country Life

Sir,—Could any reader explain the meaning and object of education? I was bom in the backblocks. I learned to read and write after a fashion. At twelve I was a cowboy on a farm at 10s a week and found. At twenty I had learned to shear, kill and dress sheep, a steer, a pig. train a dog, break in a horse, do some shepherding, droving, erect a fence, sink a well, do some quarrying, drain a swamp, be handy with an axe and do some road-making. I always envied the town folk their education, their kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, and universities, W.E.A., technical schools, Bible classes, Sunday schools, churches, night schools, and theatres. When I get to town

all I tee h young folks filling their stomachs with gut rot, their lungs with lung rot. and their heads with falsehood Yours, etc., BEWILDERED. April 30, IMI.
