AREAS FOR INDUSTRY

Woolston And Bromley It was considered impracticable to restrict an area for industries likely to have large quantities of trade wastes, but there was a very large area zoned for industry in the Woolston and Bromley districts, the technical advisory committee advised the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority yesterday. The committee was reporting on an inquiry by the Christchurch Drainage Board on the possibility of setting aside land specifically for industries with big industrial wastes. The Bromley and Woolston land was near new main col- ! lecting sewers and pumping : stations, and the committee ■ considered there was sufficient land to provide for the : development of industries , with large quantities of waste ■ and other industries for a considerable time. Constituent councils, the Canterbury Public Relations Office. and the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association should be told of the Drainage Board’s proposals and asked to co-operate by advising prospective industrial developers who might require facilities for the disposal of large quantities of wastes, that the board had or would have such facilities available in the Woolston and Bromley districts, the committee said.
