Anniversary Of Airline
(N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 30 Mr S L. Moses, of Wellington, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce. cut a birthday cake aboard a T.E.A.L. Electra as it flew from Wellington to Sydney today on the 21st anniversary of the airline's first commercial flight. The 400-miles-an-hour prop-jet aircraft flew its 70 passengers across the Tasman at more than 20,000 feet in. just less than four hours The original 164 miles-an-hour flying-boat flew its 10 inaugural passengers from Auckland to Sydney at 5000 ft in a crossing which occupied almost 10 hours. Today’s Electra arrived at Wellington from Sydney in a flying time of 4hr 2min. The birthday was honoured on both east and west-bound flights. The Air Secretary, Mr Bruce Rae, will cut Wellington’s TEAL. cake at a function the airline is sponsoring for travel agents in Wellington tomorrow morning.
