Zoo For Christchurch?
Sir,—It gave me great pleasure to read of Professor Knox’s proposal for a zoo in Christchurch. A well-kept and well-stocked zoo would do much to further the interests of this city, especially when tourists are so sought after. Added to this is the educational effect a zoo would have. Live animals arouse far more interest in natural history and geography than a lot of stale, stuffed ones. The North Island can boast of two zoos; yet the South Island, progressive in so many ways, does not have any such establishment. I feel sure that any persons really interested in furthering Christchurch’s position as cultural centre of the South Island will give their wholehearted support to this worthy scheme, which I, as a layman, feel is long overdue.—Yours, etc., ACT NOW.
