NEW HYDRO STATION

Board At Mokauiti "The Press- Specs® Service TE KUTn, April 30. The Waiere Electric Power Board has approved in principle the acceptance of tenders for electrical equipment and other work on the Mokauiti hydro-electric scheme. It is understood that the successful tenderer is prepared to begin work immediately. An estimate of cost' is about £150,000. The new hydro station will be on falls on the Mokauiti river, three miles from the Waiere station. It Will be automatically controlled from that station. Last year, with hydraulic conditions poor, the board generated over 75 million units and bought 33 million units from the State grid at a cost of £11.251. This compared with £5682 for purchases the previous year.
