HARD COURT TITLES
R. Laver In Semi-Final (N.ZJ’.A -Reuter— Coppriphl) LONDON, April 27. The Australian R. Laver beat R. Becker (Britain) in five thrill-packed sets in the British hard court championships at Bournemouth today. Laver won, 1-6, 6-2. 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. to enter the semifinals of the men's singles. His team-mate R. Emerson beat the Britieh Davis Cup player T. Pickard. 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
Emerson will meet M. Sangster (Britain) in a semifinal. The other will be played between Laver and B. Wilson, also of Britain, who today had a 6-0. 6-2, 6-1 win over W. Skonecki (Poland).
In a second-round match of the mixed doubles, J. R. McDonald (New Zealand) and Miss R. Bentley (Lancashire) beat A. Gubb (Australia) and Mrs M. Davies (Middlesex), 6-2, 8-6.
The women’s quarter-flnals saw the elimination of tho champion. Christine Truman. Miss Truman went down, 6-3. 6-2, to the Mexican, Yola Ramirez.
