EXPORT OF RABBITS
Australian Venture
A special giant-size domestic breed of rabbits is helping to boost Australia’s export trade. Cartoned, quick-frozen rabbit meat is being shipped to Singapore and Hong Kong, and meat and skins may be exported to the United States.
The rabbits are known as New Zealand Whites. They grow to three times the size of wild rabbits, and are kept in cages. The meat is said to taste like chicken.
Mr P. R. Fike started a rabbit and fur farm in New South Wales less than two years ago with 15 white rabbits. He now has more than 2500.
In addition to exporting the rabbit meat and skins, Mr Pike recently sent several rabbits to a large Austra-lian-Owned company which is establishing a commercial rabbit farm in Singapore.
