MAIDEN VOYAGE OF COASTER
Latest Ship For NX Run “The prut” Special Service WELLINGTON. April 28. The motor vessel Storm, the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company’s latest coaster, is expected to arrive at Wellington on May 11, at the end of her maiden voyage from Newport, Wales. Built on the Clyde by Scott and Sons, the vessel is 214 ft long and has a beam of 33ft 6in. Capable of a top speed of 13 knots and with a carrying capacity of 1200 tons of cargo, she is the third of the company’s ships to bear the name Storm. The Storm is fitted with radar and is the first of the company’s ships to carry this device. She is also equipped with an echo-sounder and radio-telephone. Manned by a crew of 15. she is commanded on this trip by the company’s senior master. Captain A. O. Horler. After unloading a cargo of steel sheets and bars at Wellington' the Storm will carry general cargo between Bluff, Dunedin, Timaru, Lyttelton. New Plymouth, Wanganui and Wellington.
