RECORD NUMBER OF BIRTHS

Figures For Four Months Easily the highest number of births registered in Christchurch has been recorded this year. According to figures supplied yesterday afternoon by the Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages (Mr J. M. Norling) 1967 births have been registered this year, an increase of 285 on the previous year’s figures of 1682. During this month alone 71 more births have been recorded than in April last year. Deaths and marriages, however, have remained fairly constant this year, though a slight decrease has taken place this month compared with the previous April. Figures for April, 1951, with those for April, 1960, in parentheses, are:—Births, 453 (382); deaths. 192 (189); marriages, 121 (149) of which 30 (34) were by registrar. Figures for the four months are:—Births, 1967 (1682); deaths, 684 (669); marriages, 727 (741), of which 122 (118) were by registrar.
