Drink And The Driver
• Sir, —I could not agree 1 more with "W.H.T.” when ’ he says: “In spite of threats of heavier penalty . . . and > the almost incessant publicity • given to the slogan. 'lf you 1 must drink, don’t drive,* an ’ ever-increasing number of 1 persons commit this offence.” iTo drive along our Main ’ North road any night of the • week is to see the obvious. ! The "Nelsonian eye” is being t overworked these days. May i I ask if any of our insur- ’ ance companies, following an i overseas lead, would be prei pared to take a positive line and reduce their charges for ; the non-drinking driver? i Legislation is not meeting I the situation; control is only i partly effective. Let us look i for positive attitudes and i show that it pays to be a . driver who does not drink. > Perhaps there are other posij tive lines we could adopt.— I Yours, etc., ENCOURAGEMENT. • April 28. 1961.
