CANNED BEER PLANT

Equipment Arrives From Overseas “The Press" Special Service HASTINGS, April 28. Equipment for the canning of beer at Leopard Brewery, Ltd., Hastings, has been unloaded at Napier. The plant was manufactured by the International Machinery Corporation in Belgium, and in the United Kingdom. It consists of a 15-ton Webster washing machine for the bottling hall, and other equipment necessary for the production of canned beer. Later this year Leopard Brewery will be marketing the first canned beer in New Zealand, in 12oz cans to be manufactured by J. Wattie Canneries. Ltd. As a prelude to the introduction of canned beer, building extensions at the brewery were begun recently. to provide further bottling and canning hall facilities and cold storage accommodation for the increased production. The new buildings, together with the canning plant, are estimated to cost about £llO,OOO.
