The Government
Sir, —jyhat has this country done to deserve such a gang of deceivers being foisted upon it? First Mr Holyoake’s £25.000,000 deficit becomes a £4,000,000 surplus in six weeks. Then Mr Marshall in Australia tells of a substantial increase in car imports this year. When queried on his return he scoffed; it was “just an off-the-cuff remark.” In other words, just hot air. Next he says no import licences will be cut, but 10 days later cuts R licences to save up to £50,000,000. Yesterday he informed softgoods wholesalers that we will be importing more this year than last year. And today the Dairy Commission manager denies Mr Lake’s statement. Fancy, 60 minutes before the end of the financial year, a Government offering away £3,000,000 of taxpayers’ money without even time for discussion or terms! Typical examples of National Party honesty.— Yours, etc., AN HONEST TAXPAYER. April 22, 1961.
