HAVJARL AT LYTTELTON The tanker Havjarl arrived at Lyttelton yesterday morning from Singapore to discharge 3,500,000 gallons of motor spirits for the Standard Vacuum Oil Company. The vessel will complete discharge at Auckland, and will then sail to Talara, Peru. On a former voyage the Havjarl discharged motor spirits at Mount Maunganui, being the first tanker to do so. Captain P. Nordsither is in command of the Havjarl. The vessel carries a woman radio officer and purser. Miss Judith Marcussen. Shipping Telegrams AUCKLAND, May 2. Labour Federation Officers
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 2. A member of the executive committee of the Federation of Labour for the last 11 years, Mr J. H. Thompson, was unsuccessful in today’s election of officers. Mr Thompson was last year’s workers’ delegate to the 1.L.0. conference at Geneva. He is secretary of the New Zealand Plumbers’ Union. Elected unopposed were the president of the federation (Mr F. P. Walsh), the vice-president (Mr W. A. Fox, M.P.), and the secre-tary-treasurer (Mr K. McL. Baxter). The executive committee and the voting were: Messrs L. A. Hadley 255, F. L. Fenton (president of the New Zealand Workers’ Union), who replaced Mr Thompson) 190; J. E. Napier 178, and P. M. Butler 177. Mr Thompson, with 127 votes, polled highest of the five unsuccessful candidates.
Building Broken Into.—Money totalling £25 was stolen from four offices in Wardell’s Building on Wednesday night by thieves who entered through a back window. Eight other offices in the building were broken into, but nothing was taken. Apart from the forced doors no damage was done.
