Main West Road
Sir.—As one who frequents the Main West road via Arthur’s Pass. I would like to point out one major defect in that route, namely, the top section on the east side of Porters Pass. This grade is the cause of much inconvenience during snowfall. I would suggest that by making the most use of the terrain, a recontour to a negotiable grade would provide one of the biggest improvements on this road to date. Yours, etc., SAFETY AND PROGRESS.
