SYNTAX WORKS AT MENTONE
First Sprint Since Arrival (N.Z. Press Association Copyright) MELBOURNE, April 30. The New Zealand stayer, Syntax, which has replaced Rising Fast in F. W. Hoysted’s Mentone stable, had his first sprint today since he arrived back in Australia. Ridden by the leading Victorian jockey W. Williamson, Syntax ran three furlongs in 40sec next to the inside rail on the course proper at Mentone. He was hard held. Syntax may go to Brisbane for the winter racing carnival. The trainer R. Hoysted, son of F. W. Hoysted, said today that Syntax had been entered for events at Brisbane, but there was no certainty he would go there. Among New Zealand horses entered for the rich Stradbroke Handicap at Brisbane on June 15 are the stablemates King’s Fair and King’s Trial, Ma Heine, Arganda, Franlyle, and the brilliant filly Yahabeebe. Yahabeebe is one of three good sprinters the trainer M. McCarten has in the race. The others are My Kingdom and Greater. Most of Sydney's top sprinters have been nominated for the race.
