FIRE PROTECTION IN LIBRARY

Fire protection at the Canterbury Public Library is to be considered by the library committee of the City Council before this year’s estimates are prepared. Reporting on a recent fire in the library, the City Librarian (Mr R. N. O'Reilly) said that the installation of an automatic system had been investigated previously, but deferred until alterations were completed. Only minor things remained to be done. Mr O’Reilly said that the fire and resultant damage were small, but there could easily have been a major fire, as close by were tins of paint, an open can of turpentine and a can of linseed oil.
