APPEARANCES OF WHITE HERON
Many Reports In Auckland
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 29. So many reports have been received of the rare white heron (kotuku) appearing in the Auckland province that ornithologists say numbers may be flying over from Australia. Up to 20 reports have been received by the New Zealand Ornithological Society since mid-January, when the New Zealand colony, at Okarito, in South Westland, normally disperses northwards.
Dr. E. Turbott, of the Auckland Museum, said: “More white herons are around than can be accounted by the nesting quantity.”
