Obituary SIR EDWARD CUNNINGHAM

Sir Edward Cunningham, a noted Australian journalist, died at his home at South Yarra yesterday, aged 97. He was editor of the Melbourne “Argus” for more than 20 years and was editorial adviser to the directors of the paper until his retirement in 1938. In a long career of active newspaper work, Sir Edward Cunningham saw many of the great political and social events in more than half a century of Australian history. As a young reporter he saw the arrival of Ned Kelly at North Melbourne station and covered the trial at which Kelly was sentenced to death.
