RUGBY LEAGUE
Arrangements For Trial Matches The management committee of the Canterbury Rugby League met last evening when the chairman of the Board of Control (Mr L. Hueton) reported fully on his visit to Auckland as Canterbury’s delegate to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Council.
Mr Huston reported that arrangements had been completed for the South Island trials to be held Ln Christchurch on May 18 and 10. Players will be nominated from West Coast, Otago, Wellington, and Canterbury. From these nominated players, two trial teams will be selected. After the trials the New Zealand selectors will choose players required to travel to Auckland to make up a group of 30 players who will go through an extensive training period. There will be further trials, from which the final 17 players to take part in the World Cup series, which begin in Sydney and Brisbane on June 15, will be chosen. New Zealand’s first game will be against Australia at Brisbane. Clubs are to be asked for nominations for selectors for senior reserve, third grade, and under 17-year-old representative teams.
