“Mountain Split By Earthquake”

ISTANBUL, April 29 An earth tremor in south-east Turkey almost split a mountain m two last night, the American Associated Press reported, r+k- e Senior struck the town of rethiye, causing the waterfront to fall into the sea. Buildings, shattered by a recent earthquake, were completely destroyed and wide cracks apin three nearby mountains. One of them, Mount Mentes, was almost split into two parts and looked as if it had been cut by a Pant knife.

King Hussein’s arrival in Riyadh followed talks in Mecca at the week-end between King Saud, President Shukri el Kuwatly of Syria, and a delegation from President Nasser of Egypt. King Hussein and King Saud have drawn close together since Jordan’s ruler openly expressed his anger at Egyptian interference in his domestic affairs, political observers said. Saudi Arabia so far has made the only payment on the £12.500,000 annual subsidy which Egypt, Syria and Saudi Arabia promised Jordan as a replacement for the subsidy formerly paid by Britain.
