ANZAC DAY IN BRITAIN
'N.Z. Press Association—. Copyright) LONDON, April 25.
The people of the little village of Sutton Veny, in Wiltshire, gathered outside the Church of St. John the Evangelist early this morning for an open-air Anzac Day service which was broadcast direct to Australia.
The service was held by the graves of 70 Australian and New Zealand servicemen and two Australian nurses who died at the military hospital there while the village was headquarters of the Anzac forces during World War I. In London this morning the Australian High Commissioner (Sir Eric Harrison) and the New Zealand High Commissioner (Sir Clifton Webb) placed wreaths at the Cenotaph on behalf of their Governments and peoples. Lieutenant-General Lord Freyberg, V.C., placed another wreath on behalf of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association.
