Golf BRITISH SEASON OPENS
Sponsored Tourney At Moor Park (N.Z. Press Association—. Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, April 24. The 21-year-old Australian champion, Bruce Crampton, returned a 68 over the 6013-yards West course at Moor Park, Hertfordshire, today, to take second place at the end of the first round of a sponsored £1350 professional tournament which opened the British professional season. Leaders on this course were Christie O’Connor and Bill Young, both on 67. On the longer (6602 yards) High course, the leaders were George Low, Eric Lester, and N. C. Coles, who all returned 6$L The players change courses for tomorrow's second round, and at the end of the day the leading 40 will go forward for the final 36 holes on the High course on Friday. Crampton’s 68 on the West course was obtained by sheer good golf, with scarcely a lucky break. His only good fortune was his tee shot to the 310-yards eighteenth, which popped into a bunker and out again to give him a birdie 3. Crampton, fresh from a long tour in America, was playing with the smaller British ball for the first time for seven months. "After playing so long with the larger American ball, I found the small ball very difficult to control in the short game,” he said.
